Brit Tzedek v'Shalom

Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace

Save the Date

The Shofar

January 2007

In conjunction with Brit Tzedek v’Shalom, Temple Emanuel will be hosting a program featuring two members of “Combatants for Peace.” Come for light refreshments on Tues., January 16, 2007 at 7PM, and the program will begin promptly at 7:30.

Our speakers will be Elik Elhanan, an Israeli beteran of the IDF-Palestinian conflicts, and Sulaiman Al Hamri, a former participant in anti-occupation protests and inmate in Israeli prisons. These men have seen both sides of the Middle East conflicts, and have become strong believes in the need for people on all sides to come together in search of peaceful resolutions. The “Combatants for Peace” movement was jointly formed by Palestinians and Israelis, and members of the group believe violence can be ended be joining together and engaging in non-violent means like dialogue and reconciliation. This tour is designed to raise public consciousness and educate others about peaceful means to reach resolution. In addition, it is hoped that many people will become involved in pressuring both governments to stop the cycle of violence and engage in constructive dialogue, with the end result being peaceful co-existence by all sides.

Whatever our individual opinions may be about the terrible violence in the Middle East, information from these gentlemen about the potential for peace can further our understanding of the issues and feelings of both Israelis and Palestinians. Please reserve the evening and come join us for what promises to be an interesting, thought provoking and important evening.
