We’ve Got Your Back on the Settlement Freeze, Mr. President
No clearer statement could be made of Prime Minister Netanyahu's intent to fight President Obama's settlement policy. Netanyahu, in an effort to detract from the conversation, even went so far as to say: "I think that the more we spend time arguing about this, the more we waste time instead of moving towards peace." In his talks with Secretary of State Clinton, Israeli Foreign Minister Lieberman said bluntly: "We cannot accept this vision absolutely, completely freezing these settlements. I think we must keep natural growth." Fortunately, the Obama Administration has not been deterred in the slightest. Middle East Envoy George Mitchell recently stressed that the Administration has not wavered in its demand that Israel end all settlement activity, including activity considered "natural growth." In remarks to the press following her meeting with Lieberman, Clinton rightly noted that an end to settlement activity "is an important and essential part of pursuing the efforts leading to a comprehensive peace agreement and the creation of a Palestinian state next to a Israeli-Jewish state that is secure in its borders and future." We now call on President Obama to stand firm in response to this provocative action taken by the Israeli government. Let President Obama know we've got his back on the settlement freeze.
