Brit Tzedek v'ShalomJewish Alliance for Justice and PeaceUpdates from the Director September 5, 2002 Dear Brit Tzedek Members and Supporters, As the New Year approaches, our thoughts once again turn to our hopes and dreams for a just peace in the Middle East and in the world. We strive to leave behind the pain of the past year; to recapture our belief that each of us can indeed play a role in bringing about a just peace between Israelis and Palestinians. Often we forget that every individual, and certainly a group of committed individuals, can make a difference; but we certainly can make a difference -- a significant one. In this New Year, let us never forget that a shalom b'tzedek, a just peace that supports a secure Israel alongside a viable Palestinian state, is indeed within the grasp of Israelis and Palestinians. It is up to us to remind our fellow Jews that such a peace is attainable. To bring about our vision of justice and peace, we have much work to do. As the sages teach in Pirke Avot, "It is not our task to complete the work, but neither are we free to desist from it." Let us support one another in this important work in the year 5763. May this year see an increase in peace and justice in the Middle East, in our own country, and in the entire world. L'shana tova, Aliza Becker, Acting Director |
