Wednesday, May 21st “The America-Israel Relationship at 60,” a discussion with Professor David Albert What is the nature of the US-Israel relationship and how has it changed over the years? Professor Albert will be presenting his paper on this subject at the Association for Israel Studies conference at NYU during the week of May 19. Professor Albert is also a Brit Tzedek board member and can answer questions about peace efforts in the American Jewish community, the newly formed J Street Project, National Advocacy Days, and other topics that may be of interest. The discussion will run from 10:30 AM to noon and will be moderated by Connecticut chapter member Mike Krauss. The discussion topic will be entirely up to attendees. Daniel Levy was the lead Israeli drafter of the Geneva Initiative and is now directing policy planning and international efforts at the Geneva Campaign Headquarters in Tel Aviv. He previously served as senior policy adviser to former Israeli Minister of Justice, Yossi Beilin, and has worked as an analyst for the International Crisis Group Middle East Program. February 12, 2003 Amit Mashiach, Courage to Refuse , spoke at Wesleyan University, co-sponsored by Brit Tzedek v'Shalom and the Third Path, a local Wesleyan student group dedicated to Israeli-Palestinian peace. February 6, 2003 Ron Young, founder and director of the U.S. Interreligious Committee for Peace in the Middle East, spoke at the Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale University, co-sponsored by Yale Hillel and Brit Tzedek v'Shalom. Ron Young has been doing his best for 30 years to bring together Muslims, Jews and Christians from around the US to use their good offices to influence the US government to work for peace and reconciliation between Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs. He is author of Missed Opportunities for Peace: U.S. Middle East Policy, 1981-86. January 12, 2003 Report from Israel and the West Bank: Rabbi Alan Lovins and Peter Nagle. Alan is a member of Brit Tzedek v'Shalom, Peter a Catholic peace activist. Together they visited a number of Israeli-Palestinian and Jewish-Christian-Muslim projects, including Seeds of Peace, the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, one school on the West Bank, and one in Israel. They described the people they met who are working for peace and reconciliation against all odds, and the hopeful projects those people are working on. Their talk, held at the Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale, included photos and a discussion of what people interested in peace can do to support those who are working toward it. November 2, 2002 Rabbi David Forman, founder of the Israeli Rabbis for Human Rights, spoke at Congregation Mishkan Israel. The New Haven Area Chapter of Brit Tzedek v'Shalom co-sponsored this event with the Social Action Committee of Congregation Mishkan Israel.
