Brit Tzedek v'ShalomJewish Alliance for Justice and PeaceChapter ActivitiesBoston, MAThe Jewish AdvocateAugust 5, 2005 U.S. ENVOY NEEDED IN ISRAEL The last decade has been very emotional for Israel's supporters. The hope for peace has been raised, only to be unfulfilled, too many times. Now we're just weeks away from an important window of opportunity, the Gaza pullout. My hopes and prayers are with the Israelis at this time, because I know they're working against great odds, and with too little support from the American government. How can we expect that the upcoming changes for Israelis and Palestinians will lead to greater chance for peace and security - for both sides - if they do not get third-party help to bring them together diplomatically? I suggest that President Bush appoint a high-level political envoy to help find ways to compromise and coordinate the unresolved political issues between the Israelis and Palestinians. I'm afraid many more lives will be at risk if he doesn't. Sincerely, Sanford GoldflessBrookline, MA |
