Our Work in the New Year

Dear members and supporters,

Many of you have received a solicitation from Brit Tzedek in the mail. To all of our members and supporters, we ask that you respond generously to this appeal.

Your gift to Brit Tzedek is extremely important at this time. Despite the recent outbreak of violence, the situation in the Middle East is not business as usual. There has been a very real shift in the politics of the conflict, both in Israel, in the Palestinian territories, and here in the U.S. The recently signed Geneva Accord has already made a significant difference.

Brit Tzedek will devote much of its energy and resources during the coming year to garnering support for the spirit of Geneva--not necessary every provision, but the underlying prinicples of agreement that demonstrate that a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is still possible. We have a critical role to play, since, as always, the U.S. and, therefore, we American Jews have an important voice in what happens in the Middle East..

The Israelis who negotiated the Accord recognize this clearly. They have initiated an effort to organize American Jewish organizations that support a two-state solution into a coalition to work in concert during the coming year and beyond. Brit Tzedek is part of this coalition. Hopefully, this will be the beginnings of a unified American Jewish peace movement.

Our ability to play the role for which we were established is entirely dependent on you. Brit Tzedek is now 15,000 strong, with 30 chapters throughout the country. This is tremendous growth in a relatively short period of time. It is now time to build on the momentum of that growth so that we can have even more influence on our elected representatives. It is also time to use our current strength to influence the American Jewish community.

We have many effective ideas and plans for how to implement our mission. Our ability to do so depends on the resources we have available. Without your support, we can do very little. It is as simple as that.

I appeal to you, in the name of the urgency of the hour, to give as generously as you can. It really is up to you.

We can make a difference, and with your continued support, we will make a difference. You can make a secure, tax-deductible on-line contribution at http://btvshalom.org/btvshalom.org/join/.
