Spirit of Geneva Campaign

Brit Tzedek is working to actively engage the hearts and minds of the American Jewish community in support of the principles of a negotiated, two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Spirit of Geneva through comprehensive outreach to individuals, synagogues and Jewish community organizations throughout the country. Spirit of Geneva Activities

♦ On Capitol Hill, as the Geneva Accord was being signed in Switzerland, Brit Tzedek volunteers distributed copies of the Accord and an executive summary to every member of Congress. [read more]

♦ The voices of Brit Tzedek's leadership in support of the Geneva Accord have been published in newspapers across the country.

♦ On December 1st, 2003, Brit Tzedek urged national leaders to support the "Spirit of Geneva" in an advertisement placed in Roll Call, a Washington, DC based newspaper read widely on Capitol Hill.

♦ Brit Tzedek chapters in Atlanta, Austin, Bloomington, Boston, Burlington, Chicago, Durham, Louisville, New Haven, Northern New Jersey, Olympia, Philadelphia, Portland, San Francisco, St. Louis, and Seattle chapter have hosted house meetings and other community events on the Spirit of Geneva. ♦ Brit Tzedek chapters have held public events featuring Israelis involved in the Geneva peace negotiations, including Menachem Klein, Member of Knesset (MK) Amram Mitzna, former MK Naomi Chazan, and MK Yuli Tamir, at synagogues and other other venues in Atlanta, Bloomington, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Madison, New Haven, New York City, Philadelphia, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

♦ The national office, in conjunction with the Chicago chapter, joined a group of American Jewish and Palestinian American community leaders on December 3rd to host a press conference at which an agreement on the principles underlying the Geneva Accord was signed.

♦ Since December 2003, Brit Tzedek has been an active member of a group of Jewish organizations brought together by the Geneva Initiative's Education for Peace to explore collaborative opportunities in support of the Geneva Accord in the United States.

♦ Brit Tzedek President and former Knesset Member Marcia Freedman, Vice-President Diane Balser and Advocacy and Public Policy co-chair Steve Masters were among the distinguished international guests invited to witness the signing of the Geneva Accord on December 1, 2003.

♦ Brit Tzedek has sent action alerts to its 16,000 members and supporters nationwide urging them to express their support for the Spirit of Geneva to their elected representatives by supporting House Resolution 479 and Senate Resolution 276 .

♦ The Advocacy and Public Policy Committee provides regular updates on the status of the Spirit of Geneva campaign, which offer insight into related developments in the region as well as within the American Jewish community.

♦ Brit Tzedek v'Shalom developed a comprehensive Spirit of Geneva House Meeting Guide. The document includes organizing information, talking points, hand-outs and a Geneva Accord map.

♦ An Oscar nominated film crew produced a video chronicling Brit Tzedek's leadership's journey to Geneva for the commitment ceremony to be used as launching point for discussion at Spirit of Geneva events across the country. To obtain a copy of the video, write to info@btvshalom.org
