Dear Boston-Area Brit Tzedek Supporters,

As you have heard from Brit Tzedek’s national email, Brit Tzedek’s Rabbinic Letter to Senators John McCain and Barack Obama has been a tremendous success. When the list of signers – rabbis, cantors, and rabbinical students – went to the The Jewish Forward in the form of a full-page ad, it included 660 signers. To see the Forward ad, go to:

http://btvshalom.org/btvshalom.org/mccainobamaletter.pdf

And the community of rabbis, cantors, and rabbinical students in the Boston area led the way, with 89 signers to date (60 rabbis, 6 cantors, and 23 rabbinical students) -- a truly significant number. We in the Boston Chapter want to recognize and thank each and every one of them for the public stand that they have taken -- the names of all of the Boston-area signers to date are listed at the bottom of this email.

How can you help?

Both nationally and locally, Brit Tzedek is taking the next steps to bring this campaign to still greater influence and visibility to promote Israeli-Palestinian peace. Just as we depended on our activists to do the outreach to spread the word in the first stage of the campaign (and thank you to all of you who did!), so we hope you will continue to be involved. Here's what you can do:

1) If your rabbi or cantor has signed on (see list below), please send them a thank-you. Our Jewish leadership needs our support when they take a public stand on this issue.

2) If your rabbi or cantor -- or a rabbi, cantor, or rabbinical student that you know (whether in Boston or elsewhere) -- hasn’t signed on yet, please ask them to sign.

For a current list of signers see:

http://ga3.org/campaign/letter_mccainobama/explanation#signers

Because of the outpouring of support, it has been decided to leave the Rabbinic Letter opened through the election, to allow more to sign on. The letter may be signed online at http://www.mccainobamaletter.org or you can let us know of their willingness to sign at boston@btvshalom.org and we will take care of signing them up.

3) Help us in our publicity campaign.

When our next president is elected, Brit Tzedek will be moving into high gear to give this Letter even higher visibility. Boston will be vigorously working on this effort. If you’d like to help with our media outreach, community outreach, or event programming around the Rabbinic Letter, please let us know at boston@btvshalom.org -- the more of you who are involved, the more we can do.

It is significant that so many among our rabbis, cantors, and rabbinical students are willing to publicly put their voices to this message: "As Jewish clergy, we pledge to mobilize our people behind your leadership for a mutually-acceptable, two-state solution. We pledge to let the American public know: An American President who dedicates himself to the establishment of a durable Israeli-Palestinian peace acts in the best interests of Israel and the United States.”  (For the full text, see:

http://www.mccainobamaletter.org

Thank you in advance for your help in making the most of their words, and best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year.

May this be the year that peace between Israel and the Palestinians comes at last.

B'Shalom,

Donna Spiegelman, Chair, Boston Chapter

Stan Fleischman, Boston Chapter Rabbinic Cabinet Coordinator
