[BTvS - Seattle] Dec. 19: Celebrate Chanukah With Music of Peace; Take Action

BRIT TZEDEK V'SHALOM
the Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace
Greater Seattle Chapter

Invites you to a
CHANUKAH CELEBRATION

Tuesday, December 19, 7-9 PM
Roanoke House
2601 Broadway Ave E., Seattle
(see location information below)

We light the Chanukah Menorah for inspiration at the darkest
time of year, just as the arts and culture can serve as beacons
for the work of peacemaking and understanding.
In this spirit, we are pleased to present:

ISRAELI & ARAB MUSIC OF PEACE

In this dark and dangerous time, musicians on both sides of the
Israeli-Arab conflict have another, different vision- one of
peace and cross-cultural engagement. We'll hear music from
Israeli performers like David Broza and HaDag Nachash, Lebanese
like Marcel Khalife and Feyrouz; and a Palestinian like Wisam
Murad. Each song is accompanied by an introduction and
commentary by Richard Silverstein, a local member who has a
blog, Tikun Olam, [http://www.richardsilverstein.com/tikun_olam/
] devoted to world music and Israeli-Palestinian peace.

TAKE ACTION:
PALESTINIAN SANCTIONS BILL PASSES; TELL BUSH: DON'T SIGN!
Yesterday, the House of Representatives took up and passed, by
voice vote, the Senate version of the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism
Act of 2006 (S. 2370). Though the final legislation is a more
moderate version of the punitive House bill (which Brit Tzedek
strongly opposed), recent events in the Middle East render it
entirely obsolete and greatly damaging to Israel and the peace
process. Please tell President Bush NOT to sign the bill into
law! Take Action Now!
BRIT TZEDEK V'SHALOM LAUDS BAKER-HAMILTON RECOMMENDATIONS
Marcia Freedman, president of Brit Tzedek v'Shalom, the Jewish
Alliance for Justice and Peace, praised the recommendations of
the Baker-Hamilton report regarding the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict as "a victory" for the American Jewish peace movement.
The report's findings validate Brit Tzedek's longstanding
position that direct negotiations based on the principle of
"land for peace" and the establishment of a just and viable
Palestinian state are the only means for meeting Israel's
security needs in the region. Read more
