Feinstein/Lugar Pro-Peace Bill Reintroduced; Contact YOUR Senators Today!

Dear Friend of Brit Tzedek,

Senators Feinstein and Lugar reintroduced their important Senate resolution calling for active U.S. engagement to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and now is the time to give it a new momentum!  The bill, now officially S.Res.321, currently boasts a total of 37 cosponsors.

As President Bush and Secretary Rice move forward with an international peace meeting in November with Israel, the Abbas-led Palestinian Authority and key Arab stakeholders, it is more important than ever that the Senate send a strong message supporting Israeli-Palestinian peace.  Contact your senators today!

The list of cosponsors is to the right.  If one or both of your senators are not yet cosponsors, urge them to cosponsor S.Res.321 today!

If one or both of your senators have already agreed to cosponsor, please thank them!

Over the summer Brit Tzedek made a major push for cosponsors on this powerful pro-peace, pro-Israel resolution introduced by Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Richard Lugar (R-IN).  Thanks to your advocacy, the resolution garnered 37 cosponsors – over one third of the Senate – and came inches away from passing before the August recess.  It only failed to pass because two senators put a secret hold on the bill at the last minute.  By increasing the number of cosponsors on S.Res.321, we can demonstrate the widespread support for this resolution and try to move it through.

S.Res.321 represents a sharp departure from the usual language in resolutions about Israel and the Palestinians and more closely echoes the pro-peace, pro-Israel positions shared by Brit Tzedek and the vast majority of American Jews. It calls on President Bush to make a two-state solution a "top priority," urges him to appoint a Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, and welcomes the Arab League Peace Initiative.

We need as many cosponsors as possible on this bill to push it forward.  And it is critical that those Senators who have already taken a stand for peace know they have the support of American Jews.  Please contact your Senators today!

Subject: Please cosponsor S.Res.321 on Israeli-Palestinian peace

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

As an American Jew, I write to urge you to cosponsor S.Res.321, the Feinstein/Lugar resolution on Israeli-Palestinian peace.

S.Res.321 reaffirms the Senate's commitment to a two-state solution and to Israel's security, and denounces the use of violence and terror. It calls on Hamas to recognize Israel's right to exist, renounce terror, and accept past agreements with Israel. It further calls on President Bush to make a two-state solution a "top priority," urges him to appoint a Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, and welcomes the Arab League Peace Initiative.

The resolution has already garnered support from over one third of the Senate. As President Bush and Secretary Rice move forward with the international meeting scheduled for November, it is more important than ever that the Senate send a strong message supporting Israeli-Palestinian peace.

Please join your colleagues as a cosponsor of S.Res.321 today!

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
