Urge your Rep. to Cosponsor Mideast Peace Envoy Resolution

Dear Friend of Brit Tzedek,

On February 8, Rep. Susan Davis (D-CA) introduced a powerful resolution calling on President Bush to appoint a special envoy for Middle East peace, H.Res.143.  A high-level, permanent U.S. envoy to the Middle East could help break the current impasse between Israelis and Palestinians by providing vigorous and persistent engagement to return both sides to the negotiating table.  Please tell your Representative to cosponsor H.Res.143 today!

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice appears to be reengaging in the peace process and is preparing for a planned trilateral meeting between herself, Israeli Prime Minister Olmert, and Palestinian President Abbas.  The appointment of a high-level U.S. envoy to the region, working in coordination with Secretary Rice, will provide the sustained U.S. commitment to Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking absolutely critical to make real progress to end the conflict.

H.Res.143, which currently has 10 cosponsors (including four Jewish Members), aptly recognizes that “the creation of a lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians will reduce tension in the region and help repair America’s image in the international community,” and that “it is directly in the national interest of the United States to reengage both sides of this dispute in an urgent manner.”

As the 110th Congress charts a new course for Middle East diplomacy, they need to hear from American Jews calling for renewed and sustained U.S. engagement in Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking through the appointment of special envoy for Middle East peace. Ask your Representative to sign-on to H.Res.143 today! Take action!

Subject: Please cosponsor H.Res.143, calling for a Mideast peace envoy

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

As an American Jew, I urge you to cosponsor H.Res.143, introduced by Rep. Susan Davis (CA), calling on President Bush to appoint a special envoy for Middle East peace. A high-level, permanent U.S. envoy to the Middle East could help break the current impasse between Israelis and Palestinians by providing vigorous and persistent engagement to return both sides to the negotiating table. Please cosponsor H.Res.143 today.

Congresswoman Davis' resolution aptly recognizes that "the creation of a lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians will reduce tension in the region and help repair America's image in the international community," and that "it is directly in the national interest of the United States to reengage both sides of this dispute in an urgent manner."

As Secretary Rice is reengaging in the peace process and preparing for a planned trilateral meeting between herself, Israeli Prime Minister Olmert, and Palestinian President Abbas, the appointment of a high-level U.S. envoy to the region, working in coordination with Secretary Rice, will provide the sustained U.S. commitment to Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking absolutely critical to make real progress to end the conflict.

Please cosponsor H.Res.143 today!

Sincerely,
