Brit Tzedek Welcomes Agreement
on Palestinian Unity
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas political
bureau chief Khaled Meshal signed a deal to form the
Palestinian Authority unity government. The agreement
between rival factions Fatah and Hamas was reached after two
days of intensive negotiations in Mecca, Saudi
Arabia, and sets out the
principles of the unity government, which is to be formed over
the upcoming weeks.
Brit Tzedek is
encouraged by the agreement and hopes that it will mark an end
to the recent months of civil strife between Fatah and Hamas in
the West Bank and Gaza Strip,
leaving over 90 dead, and will result in greater stability
and security for Palestinian society as a whole.
