[BTvS - DC] Brit Tzedek Elections!
Brit Tzedek Elections!
Dear Brit Tzedek Members and Friends,
We?re having elections in November! No, not the U.S. midterm
elections, but the D.C. Brit Tzedek steering committee elections
on Monday, November 13 at 7:00 pm, so mark your calendars!
Please read on to learn more about our elections and an event in
our area with Jeffrey Goldberg who recently wrote the book
"Prisoners: A Muslim and a Jew Across the Middle East Divide."
Joining the steering committee is one important way you can grow
the D.C. region chapter and have your voice heard. There are so
many amazing ways to work in our neighborhood visits to our MD
and VA Representatives, organize fascinating programs with some
of the leading experts on Middle East policy, work with local
college campuses, meet with Jewish community leaders, but we
really need the people to do it! I encourage you to join us on
November 13 to vote in a new steering committee. You will have
an opportunity to vote via email, but we would like as many
people as possible to come to our meeting.
The positions up for election are the following: Chapter Leader,
Advocacy Chair, Treasurer, Secretary. Of course we're happy to
create other positions if folks are interested in taking on a
specific role that appeals to them. For example, a Student
Liaison would be a terrific position since our region is blessed
with quite a few universities.
If you'd like to run, please prepare a short paragraph about
yourself explaining why you would like to join the committee and
what skills/experience you would contribute. Email this to
firstname.lastname@example.org, and it will be circulated to the
listserv in the next couple of weeks. If you can't make the Nov
13 meeting, you are still eligible to run. The deadline for
submitting your bio is Sunday, November 5.
If you're interested in become more involved but feel too
uninformed about Brit Tzedek and the issues, have no fear! Brit
Tzedek's Director of Chapter and Grassroots Development, Carinne
Luck, has told me that she is eager to come down to D.C. to run
a training session for newbies. She is a terrific person to
consult for anything related to chapter activities and BTVS
advocacy campaigns. The dates she is available are: Monday, Nov
20 or Tuesday, Nov 21. In addition, the Tuesday right after
Thanksgiving works for her. Even if you don't plan to run, this
training session will provide a terrific opportunity to get a
crash course or refresher in all the BTVS basics and also get
updates on new advocacy campaigns.
Feel free to reach me this week at 202 236 9518 if you?d like to
talk further about working on the steering committee (Sundays
and weekday evenings work best!). I'm looking forward to seeing
you in a few weeks.
