On May 23, Prime Minister Olmert is speaking to Congress
On June 18-20, you can too!

Brit Tzedek's message for a negotiated two-state solution is more critical than ever:

  • Israeli and American diplomatic engagement with President Abbas and other Palestinian moderates leading back to negotiations

  • Humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people to provide for basic needs and to develop civil society infrastructure

  • No withdrawal to final borders - Olmert's West Bank disengagement plan cannot create final borders or prejudge negotiations
  • Don't let our government shut the door to negotiations!

*Full information and agenda for National Advocacy Days is below.  First here's an update on the punitive Palestinian sanctions bill HR4681.

    What happened to HR 4681?
Due to intense pressure from Brit Tzedek, other organizations, and the Administration, Congress pulled the bill off the floor before its anticipated vote this past Tuesday.  The House Judiciary Committee claimed jurisdiction over parts of the bill relating to visas and Palestinian representation in the US.  They marked-up (debated and voted on) the bill yesterday, adding an additional punitive provision that would specifically prohibit Palestinian representation at the UN.

HR4681 will likely come up for a vote again next week, but with all this opposition, anything is possible.  Look for another action alert once the bill goes back to a vote!

Congress and Press take note of pro-Israel opposition to HR4681. A Dear Colleague letter circulated the Hill yesterday entitled "Pro-Israel Community Split on Palestinian Sanctions Bill" featuring the excellent articles below that recently appeared in the Jewish press.

"Jewish groups fight over congress vote" by Nathan Guttman. Jerusalem Post, May 10, 2006

"On eve of Olmert visit, mixed signals on Palestinian aid confuse Congress" by Ron Kampeas. JTA, May 9, 2006
