Dear Senator Clinton,
During your upcoming visit to Israel, you will be speaking with
Israeli leaders. As your constituent, I ask you, in the name of
Israel's future peace and security, to use this opportunity to
vigorously voice your support for US and Quartet positions
regarding the urgency of improving the mobility of Gaza
residents and easing the flow of goods.
Steps needed are: (1) the prompt opening of land passages
between Gaza and Egypt at Rafah, and between Gaza and the West
Bank; (2) permission to rebuild the airport; and (3)
construction of a seaport. Please stress that by taking these
critical steps to support the establishment of stability and
prosperity in Gaza, Israel will demonstrate that it is a true
partner for peace.
I am an American Jew, and Israel's security and well-being are
very important to me. Neither is possible to achieve without an
equally secure and thriving Palestinian state alongside Israel.
As an American, I also believe that a negotiated peace between
Israel and a Palestinian state, with active American support, is
vital to U.S. standing in the Arab and Moslem world. The
opportunity provided by the successful Gaza disengagement must
not be wasted.
