Talking about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict in Jewish Congregations
Rabbi Roberto Graetz and Rabbi Joshua Levine Grater
Since the late 1960's, the American synagogue has taught that the twin phenomena of the Holocaust and the State of Israel are essential and paramount components of Jewish identity. Judaism emphasizes the centrality of human rights, social justice, and our responsibility for healing the world. How might the synagogue of 2005 reconcile the universalism of modern Judaism with realities of modern Israel? Participants in this workshop will discuss these issues and others raised by the Middle East conflict for synagogue communities. We will focus on practical solutions and suggestions for organizing in synagogue.
