Getting Our Message of Hope and Peace into the Media
Carolyn Toll Oppenheim
Using texts of positive examples of media coverage of Israeli/Palestinian conflict resolution initiatives, we will discuss the importance of giving visibility to the voices of hope, not anger and conflict in media coverage of the Middle East conflict. Session participants will discuss, brainstorm, and network on the topic of breaking through the current media model of focusing on the extreme voices of anger in this conflict as the main "story." The session will present tools to break into the media with stories of the virtually invisible peace movement. Participants will leave empowered through role playing to approach media professionals exuding a confidence that peace voices are essential news stories.
