Mizrachi Jews and the Peace Process
Shoshana Madmoni-Gerber

This workshop will provide general background on the history and culture of the Israeli Mizrachim (Jews from the Middle East and North Africa), including film clips, and their experience upon arriving in Israel and since. The presenter will offer an analysis of why the Mizrachim do not, in general, ally politically with the Israeli peace camp, and discuss current grassroots efforts among Israeli Mizrachim for peace and social justice. She will suggest prospects for future collaboration, including the role American Jews may play in bridging this large and painful gap in Israeli society.
