Breaking the Silence: The Occupation through the Lenses of Combat Soldiers. Noam Chayut and Avichay Sharon, former IDF combat soldiers, will speak and present photos on their experiences serving in the occupied territories. Their presentation will include photos taken by Israeli soldiers during their patrols in the West Bank city of Hebron. Refusenik and former Black Hawk pilot, Yonatan Shapira, explained why he refused to continue serving in the West Bank and why he believes the occupation is hurting Israel’s security and democracy. Shapira was a helicopter pilot for more than 10 years, flying more than 100 rescue and assault missions. As a reservist, he served as a pilot, operations leader and instructor.
