Also, steering committee member Dr. Alan Lovins will be presenting on "The Jewish Tradition and Placing Blame on Others."

What is the nature of the US-Israel relationship and how has it changed over the years?  Professor Albert will be presenting his paper on this subject at the Association for Israel Studies conference at NYU during the week of May 19.  Professor Albert is also a Brit Tzedek board member and can answer questions about peace efforts in the American Jewish community, the newly formed J Street Project, National Advocacy Days, and other topics that may be of interest.

Discussion with Rose Weinberg
Brit Tzedek v'Shalom Connecticut will be sponsoring a discussion with Israeli peace activist and Connecticut native, Rose Weinberg. The event will take place at 7:30 PM on Monday, July 31 in the Legion Avenue Room at the JCC in Woodbridge. Tea and coffee will be available. We hope to discuss not only the present conflict but also some of the long-term issues underlying it.

As always, our prayers are with innocent Israelis, Palestinians and Lebanese. We would be pleased to hear your thoughts and feelings about the present conflict, and to discuss with you ways to become more involved in Brit Tzedek's effort to bring about sustainable solutions in the Middle East.

Open Discussion and Breakfast
Brit Tzedek v'Shalom Connecticut will be holding an open discussion and breakfast, at the Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven in the Legion Avenue room. The discussion will run from 10:30 AM to noon and will be moderated by Connecticut chapter member Mike Krauss. The discussion topic will be entirely up to attendees. We?ll bring bagels and lox, and would be happy to take contributions toward the cost.

PLEASE RSVP for directions and so that we can plan for the breakfast! Email us. Also note: members in good standing are invited to attend a Chapter Steering Committee Meeting that will run from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Sunday, before the discussion and breakfast.

America, the Israel Lobby and the Future of Israel-Palestine - Daniel Levy speaks at Yale. This event is sponsored by Yale Friends of Israel, the Council on Middle East Studies of YCIAS, and Brit Tzedek v’Shalom. Daniel Levy was the lead Israeli drafter of the Geneva Initiative and is now directing policy planning and international efforts at the Geneva Campaign Headquarters in Tel Aviv. He previously served as senior policy adviser to former Israeli Minister of Justice, Yossi Beilin, and has worked as an analyst for the International Crisis Group Middle East Program.

Ron Young, founder and director of the U.S. Interreligious Committee for Peace in the Middle East, spoke at the Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale University, co-sponsored by Yale Hillel and Brit Tzedek v'Shalom. Ron Young has been doing his best for 30 years to bring together Muslims, Jews and Christians from around the US to use their good offices to influence the US government to work for peace and reconciliation between Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs. He is author of Missed Opportunities for Peace: U.S. Middle East Policy, 1981-86.

Report from Israel and the West Bank: Rabbi Alan Lovins and Peter Nagle. Alan is a member of Brit Tzedek v'Shalom, Peter a Catholic peace activist. Together they visited a number of Israeli-Palestinian and Jewish-Christian-Muslim projects, including Seeds of Peace, the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, one school on the West Bank, and one in Israel. They described the people they met who are working for peace and reconciliation against all odds, and the hopeful projects those people are working on. Their talk, held at the Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale, included photos and a discussion of what people interested in peace can do to support those who are working toward it.
