Track: Media and Communications
This workshop focuses on the “Nuts and Bolts” of building and maintaining a substantive presence in print, broadcast and new media on the local and national level. Techniques to be covered will include monitoring and tracking media to map the public conversation on this issue in your community; developing collateral materials (media advisories, press releases, opinion pieces and PSAs); cultivating good working relationships with journalists; planning and publicizing newsworthy events; and framing local news developments in the context of our national message. This workshop is geared towards those who have a preliminary interest in becoming more active in their chapter’s media outreach and who want to find out what doing so entails.
