ALIZA BECKER, Interim Executive Director,
ALIZA BECKER, Interim Executive Director, has more than 25 years of advocacy, educational and non-profit management experience. She is a founding member of Brit Tzedek v’Shalom and was the organization’s first staff person in June 2003. She founded the Jewish Peace Forum in 2001 in Chicago and was a member of a Jewish-Palestinian dialogue group for 6 years starting immediately prior to the first Intifadah. Ms. Becker’s grandparents were active in the pre-State Poale Zion movement, and her grandfather was a founding member of the Israeli trade union, Histadrut. She has much extended family living in Israel and visits regularly. For twenty years, Ms. Becker worked in advocacy and education for immigrants and refugees. She published seven books and numerous articles on these topics, managed large-scale immigrant education programs and served as Interim Executive Director at the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. In July 2002, the Coalition honored Ms. Becker with an award for her long-time commitment to immigrant and refugee rights. Ms. Becker holds a Masters degree in Linguistics from the University of Illinois and a B.A. in History from the University of Wisconsin. [top]
Prior to her work with Brit Tzedek, Ms. Domansky worked as a regional coordinator for MoveOn.org in Florida and Virginia. She holds a Masters degree in Political Science/ International Relations from the University of Connecticut.
She studied both studio art and sociology at Syracuse University and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2006. She received her Masters degree in Community Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art where she was simultaneously engaged as an Americorps Service Member in the Community Art Corps. Since then, Nora has moved back to Chicago where she remains engaged in social justice related issues relevant to the many communities she belongs to.
